How we’re doing it
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet was founded by The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and the Bezos Earth fund and has powered 137 projects across nearly 30 countries. Scroll through some of the stories to see how your 0.1% could turn into 100% impact.
Brazil
Unlocking energy and climate leadership
In Brazil's Amazon, 1.5 million people still lack electricity and 3 million rely on costly diesel generators that emit 2.3+ million tons of CO₂ each year. Global Energy Alliance is partnering with the government to change that—rolling out 10 renewable energy projects, focusing on indigenous communities. The goal: 180,000 new or improved connections, 150,000 jobs supported, and 750,000 lives impacted.
Nigeria
Reaching the hardest-to-connect communities
Nigeria has the world's largest unelectrified population, with millions still relying on costly, polluting diesel generators. Global Energy Alliance is partnering with the Nigerian government and the World Bank to expand access to clean, reliable energy—reaching 2.5 million people, unlocking $1 billion in catalytic funding for off-grid renewables, and avoiding 10 million tons of CO₂ each year.
India
Powering rural progress and climate ambition
Over 300 million people in India live with unreliable energy. Global Energy Alliance is working to change that, helping drive resilient, low-carbon growth while supporting countries to meet their net zero goals. A key program supports rural enterprises, rooftop solar, and solarising agriculture. In Rajasthan, it's enabling efficient irrigation, conserving water, and helping farmers diversify crops for greater resilience and income.
